FAQ’s Burney Wealth Management
What is a Fiduciary and are you one?
The main responsibility of a fiduciary is to place client interests above their own. As a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor, we are held to the fiduciary standard outlined by the SEC. It is important to know that not every “financial advisor” is held to this standard.
Check out our fiduciary blog post to learn what the role means to us.
How are your fees calculated, am I locked into a contract?
As a fee-only RIA, we charge a management fee based upon assets under management. This structure ensures our incentives are aligned with yours. For some planning work, we offer our services at a fixed or hourly rate.
Clients may terminate services at any time by written notification.
What is your firm’s investment strategy and philosophy?
We combine an investment management firm with 45+ years of experience managing US equity portfolios with sophisticated financial planning to create the right portfolio for you, taking into account your unique goals and preferences. We believe blindly following convention is problematic. By using realistic forward return expectations and going beyond the typical 60-40 portfolio, we create a customized portfolio more likely to achieve your long-term goals.
What advanced designations do your employees have?
Professional development of our team members is encouraged and highly important to us. Our team is comprised of multiple CFA Charterholders and CFP® professionals.
Where did the name Burney come from?
Our firm is named after the company’s founder, Brigadier General Jack Burney, who’s lifelong passion has been security analysis and portfolio management. An engineer by training, Jack pioneered quantitative investing in the 1950’s and founded the firm in 1974. Our analytical process has evolved with the market and technology, but the fundamental principles remain true to those first developed by Jack a half century ago.
Do your employees earn any commissions on my portfolio?
We believe a financial advisor should feel like a partner, someone who is guiding you toward what is best for your unique personal situations. Our employees do not earn commissions by placing you in certain investments. Our fee-only structure ensures that we are not biased in our recommendations.
Do you buy or sell your research to any 3rd parties?
We do not sell our research to third parties. We do like to keep clients up to date with the latest and routinely post research to our blog.
